My
Story

Twenty-seven years as an attorney. A life lived fully, and at a cost. This is how Exhale came to exist.

"Life's challenges may be part of our story, but they are not the whole story."
The belief behind Exhale

When I was younger, creativity came naturally. There was freedom in colour, imagination, expression and play. Like many people, I did not think of it as anything special at the time. It was simply part of how I moved through my world.

As I grew older, life became more structured. Responsibilities increased. Expectations grew louder. The freedom to pause, create and simply be myself began to fade into the background.

For the past 27 years, I have worked as an attorney. My professional life brought many opportunities, but also a unique set of pressures and challenges for which no textbook could have fully prepared me. And, of course, life outside of work carried its own demands: relationships, responsibilities, personal surprises, difficult seasons, and moments when I found myself questioning the path I was on.

◆

Like many people, I adjusted as a way to keep going. I learned to toughen myself, remain composed, meet expectations, and keep producing. There was always something to manage, something to carry, something that needed an answer or solution.

But over time, I began to feel the cost of constantly functioning. I was still showing up, still doing what needed to be done, but I had stopped checking in with myself.

I was no longer feeling grounded or balanced. The constant performing had slowly pulled me away from the parts of myself that helped me recover: my creativity, joy, courage and resilience.

Somewhere along the way, I had become so focused on being strong, composed and capable that I lost sight of the person underneath the performance. When the overwhelm came, I felt exhausted and out of balance, with no clear way back to myself.

◆

Creative practices have always been part of my life, especially art and journalling. What I once thought of simply as "hobbies" became something much deeper. They gave me a way to pause, quiet the noise, express what I could not always explain, and gently return to myself.

Together with intentional breathwork, these practices helped me steady myself in anxious moments, soften the overwhelm I was carrying, and reconnect with courage, strength, joy and balance.

Exhale was created from that experience.

It is not about escaping life, pretending everything is fine, or creating perfect art. It is about making space for yourself: even briefly: to breathe, reflect, create, and remember that we are more than what is happening to us.

Through Exhale, I invite you to begin reconnecting with yourself through mindful creative practices, breathwork and reflection.

"The goal is not to escape life. The goal is to remain connected to yourself while living it."

The next workshop has ten places. If any part of this story felt familiar, that is probably enough of a reason to take one of them.
